North Island 911 Corporation (NI911) recently was awarded the Peace River Regional District contract for fire dispatch through a request for proposal process. NI911, a local government partnership comprised of six regional district shareholders, has been delivering professional 9-1-1 fire call answer and full service fire dispatch services since 1996. Currently NI911 operates and maintains a state-of-the-art fire dispatch centre and the necessary communications, mapping systems for dispatching 51 fire departments in a service area covering approximately 56,000 square kilometres and is excited to add Peace River to this service area. With the addition of Peace River Regional District, NI911 Corporation will be servicing 61 fire departments and increasing their coverage area to approximately 175,000 square kilometres.
“Being chosen as the successful proponent shows the professionalism and dedication of our staff in the managing and delivery of our fire dispatch,” explains NI911 President Larry Samson. “We continually strive to effectively deliver of our fire dispatch service to our residents and will continue to provide topnotch service to all our service areas.” The corporation is set to take over the fire dispatch service in early December 2017. Until this time, NI911 will be working closely with Peace River Regional District and their local fire departments to ensure a smooth, successful transition. As part of this new service area delivery, NI911 will be updating their current mapping system and expanding their radio network systems.
